This is the most recent data from the CDC. The CDC cautions that it should not be used to compare doctors and clinics. This data represents the outcomes of IVF cycles when using a person's own eggs.
For more information please see our FAQs.
Where you see a “?” on the chart, a clinic has done fewer than 20 cycles in this category and age range, so the CDC says showing percentages from this small data set would be misleading and unreliable.
Dr. Karpenko is very straight forward but also compassionate. I saw her on almost each visit, she is patient and answers all questions candidly.... I trust her advise and direction as a doctor completely. She made me feel like she was caring for a family member, not a patient. Moving on from her office was a difficult decision.... I also saw Dr. K’s NP and at one point she provided conflicting information during monitoring. I asked that Dr. K contact me directly
I loved the personal attention of being at a small clinic. I felt like they [New York Reproductive] truly cared about the process for me as an individual & I never felt like just another number. However, being so small, the clinic did not have hours that are as flexible as larger clinics. Dr. K would call me after hours but no appointments were ever possible before 10 am or after 4 pm.... IUIs cost $500 plus medication. IVF cycles were just under $10,000 plus medication

What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Galina Karpenko (OB/GYN) at New York Reproductive?
Ask all of your questions. She is a sole practitioner. While she spends time working with each client and returns all calls but she does not have the large staff and literature available for contact and information that larger clinics make available.

Describe the protocols Galina Karpenko (OB/GYN) used in your cycles at New York Reproductive and their degree of success.
We did 3 clomid assisted IUIs with trigger shot. The 3rd one would have been an ivf cycle but I had scheduling issues so another IUI was scheduled. Nothing changed in protocol. Thereafter we did 2 ivf cycles with follistim, ganirelix and trigger. The only change from first to second cycle was increase dosage of follistim for the second half of the cycle. The second cycle resulted in more eggs retrieved. Not sure if this was a result of higher dosages of follistim or something else.

Describe the specific things that went wrong at New York Reproductive.
I also saw Dr. K’s NP and at one point she provided conflicting information during monitoring. I asked that Dr. K contact me directly to clarify and she did later that night after personally reviewing my results.
Dr. Karpenko remembered everything about me and my results everytime I went in or had a procedure. She also began to understand the type of person I was and treated me accordingly. She was personable and funny and just made me feel so comfortable about everything. I love her and am so thankful for her in this world...She had a great sense of humor which made me feel so comfortable given that I was exposed to her multiple times a week for approximately a year. As a patient, I was on time for every appointment and went with the flow putting all my trust in her and her staff. It worked and I am grateful.
The nurses [at New York Reproductive] who assisted were amazing!! Needles at first were a big scare for me but they made me feel so good and drew blood so naturally that needles are nothing to me now. They spoke to me like I was a friend and created a wonderful relationship...The strengths were the cleanliness, the promptness of seeing the patients according to their appointment and the staff. I wouldn't say there are weaknesses. Maybe the location. It's smack in the middle of the NYC so parking is nonexistent and the crowds are overwhelming at times.

From the start, Dr. Karpenko qas the only person who gave me a clear understanding of what was wrong with my husband and myself and was so compassionate about it. Describe the protocols Galina Karpenko (OB/GYN) used in your cycles at New York Reproductive and their degree of success.
I had to take 3 different types of supplements every day each for a different concern and inject myself every night with Gonal F until the procedure and then give myself a trigger shot which was Ovidrel 2 days before the procedure. With IUI it was different because I didn't need to use the other trigger shot, Centrotide. That was with my IVF treatments. The supplements increased my amh and fsh hormones and the gonal created and grew eggs for me. I also had to take progesterone after the procedure to make sure the sperm caught with the egg and stayed. My husband also had to take 2 supplements for his sperm motility and sperm count which resulted in a positive outcome. After so many times, I became pregnant on my 2nd IVF cycle and am currently 34 weeks.

I was covered with my insurance so I only had a $15 co pay. I had to pay to freeze my extra eggs after the first egg retrieval which was $1500 and then a monthly storage fee of $100. It was for only 1 month.
Describe Galina Karpenko (OB/GYN)'s approach to eSET (elective single embryo transfer) vs. multiple embryo transfer at New York Reproductive.
I feel the doctor should give her best professional opinion and the patient should consider what she says before making a decision.
Dr karpenko is the 4th doctor we’ve been to and from the first appointment I felt confident that she would help us through this difficult time. She was the one to diagnose me with endometriosis. She does every ultrasound, she discusses every treatment and protocol plan personally with me in her office. She has done every retrieval and transfer. She is the one who calls me with blood results. No other clinic does any of that!
The office [NY Reproductive] is small. Dr karpenko and dr Smith are the only doctors. 3 nurses. There is never a wait, normal business hours not factory hours. Always a greeting when you walk through the door. Dr karpenko always calls me with blood results same day.... Because of my endometriosis we always did lower dosage cycles. They all included menopur (1vial). Along the way follistim was added (150), cetrotide and ovidrel was always my trigger shot.
How was your experience with Galina Karpenko (OB/GYN) at New York Reproductive?
Unfortunately we haven’t been successful yet but I firmly believe that she will get the job done. Dr karpenko is compassionate and patient and is a wonderful communicator. I know we’ve done a lot of ivf cycles with her but we were combatting the endometriosis and attempting pregnancy through ivf before choosing endo surgery.

Call and make an appointment. Her office isn’t a factory. She is very personable and compassionate and if you want to feel like a human and not a number, she’s the one to make you feel that way.

Dr Karpenko has a small office. 1 receptionist and 3 nurses. One is the office manager and 1 is also in billing. These women are the best we’ve ever experienced. Beyond friendly, always up for a chat. Never rushed.

Describe the costs associated with your care under Galina Karpenko (OB/GYN) at New York Reproductive.
At the start I was under my insurance which was United healthcare with ZERO coverage for anything infertility related. I don’t recall what we spent exactly but the iui cycle which was the only one with dr karpenko was $1500 for everything involved, blood, ultrasound etc. As of 2018 I am covered with Cigna through my husbands insurance and we are covered 100% for medications, ivf/iui etc!! I pay $40 a co pay for blood/ultrasounds but never a copay for beta bloodwork.
Describe Galina Karpenko (OB/GYN)'s approach to eSET (elective single embryo transfer) vs. multiple embryo transfer at New York Reproductive.
I only had 1-2 embryos at a time. When we got 2 embryos on the last cycle we transferred 2.
We agreed together to transfer single embryos, although she [Dr. Galina Karpenko] was very willing to do two at once...was very kind and warm, she really cared about my treatment... often felt rushed through the process, without having enough information about what I had to do next and when. She also didn't take as much time to explain the reasoning behind her treatment decisions, but to be fair this was my first round and I feel it was somewhat diagnostic.
All of the nursing staff [at New York Reproductive] were great, but I did not have a nurse coordinator at this practice, and now that I have one I can see how helpful it's been...The clinic did not tell me the procedure for ordering meds from my pharmacy, so we had to rush ship them. They also did not always hand out paperwork instructions at the time of my visit, and instead would call later. Nothing devastating, but small inconveniences that would add up.

Describe the protocols Galina Karpenko (OB/GYN) used in your cycles at New York Reproductive and their degree of success.
I started with a low dose of Femara, which created regular cycles, but no natural pregnancy. Then we did one IUI before doing IVF. I had a very low dose of Gonal-F, because I was producing a lot of follicles, but when we did the egg retrieval we got many fewer than expected. I moved across the country after this cycle, so I can't say how she may have adjusted treatment for the next round.

Describe your experience with New York Reproductive.
This clinic uses Rockefeller Labs for their procedures, and while the staff there was great, it made for occasional confusion about where to go for which tests/procedures. NY Reproductive is also a small clinic. It was very easy to get in and see the doctor or the nurse practitioner and you feel like a real person, but now having been at a larger practice I see the appeal of having more in house infrastructure.

She [Dr. Palta] criticized my lifestyle and felt like she blamed me for not being able to conceive and I will never forget that about her that’s why I would never recommend another women to get hurt the way I did.... Did not feel treated with care during my hard times trying to conceive. Felt as if it was all for money. Did not make me feel comfortable at all. I regret having that experience because it left me sad even 4 years later and still no pregnancy. I just remember always feeling sad and depressed leaving the office every time.
I won’t ever forget one staff member [at NY Reproductive] was she tried to take blood out of my upper outer arm rather than a vein. I was just shocked at how they didn’t know what they were doing. Too many negative instances I had during my 6 months of fertility treatment.... There were no strengths. I wouldn’t ever go back even if I had an option to retry those same treatments for free I would not go back. If a patient was planning to go there I would let them know to not even waste their time and energy and especially their pain and money

I remember taking clomid as well as Gino F 75 units for a few days As well as menopure once during the week. I Also took an ovulation shot each cycle. I would head in for a week straight to take my bloodwork. It was very draining.

Describe Vidya Palta's approach to eSET (elective single embryo transfer) vs. multiple embryo transfer at New York Reproductive.
I haven’t gone that far into fertility treatment yet. After my experience with my old fertility doctor I have always been sad about not conceiving with her help that I am finally willing to try another doctor.
It was hard to get details from her [Dr. Galina Karpenko] about steps in the process. Then she made a major mistake with prescribing the correct amounts of medication to be covered by insurance that has cost me a lot. She also did not prescribe medication to sync my egg production and the IVF procedures I did with her were a big waste--got 7x as many with a different course of treatment, after she said nothing else could be done differently.
The office [NY Reproductive] was only open after 9:30 or 10 so I was missing a lot of work to get to morning appointments. They did usually take later appointments, though.... With one notable exception, the nursing staff in Karpenko's office was great.... The facility is very nice and well kept. I liked almost all the people in the office but I couldn't believe Karpenko's ineptitude.

She was fine for unmedicated IUI with no concerns. I wouldn't go back for other procedures. Do your homework on your own and ask informed questions, don't expect her to give you the information.

Describe the specific things that went wrong at New York Reproductive.
I was not prescribed the medication to sync follicle development and consequently only produced a few eggs in the two IVF cycles in did there. At another facility and under a different treatment plan, I produced 17 in one cycle. So those previous cycles were wasted. Also, my insurance plan only covered three cycles; so when Karpenko didn't prescribe enough Gonal and had to call in a refill, I learned the hard way that the coverage limit extended to prescriptions as well. I wasted one of three total fills on a single Gonal pen, and had to cover all the drugs for my third IVF round out of pocket because of her lack of knowledge. I found out later that it is common practice for other doctors to over-prescribe for this very reason.
She [Dr. Vidya Palta] was warm, caring, kind , considerate and the only Dr after seeing 2 of the supposed best Doctors in Ny she was the only one to take the time to really evaluate me and my husband. She diagnosed every issue...This woman really is the baby whisperer. You're not just money and a patient to her. That is what makes her so special...She is always there day or night even though she has a family of her own she will never leave you wondering.
They [New York Reproductive] could have been a little more helpful and explained things better being it is such a nerve racking time but once your Doctor gets there that all changes. Overall they were good! They helped in everyway they could, updated family in the waiting room. Very welcoming!

Use her, trust her. It's not an over night process but trust her medical advice and listen to her, the process is long. The procedure can be painful but she always gets you, your miracle!
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Vidya Palta at New York Reproductive?
She was warm, caring, kind , considerate and the only Dr after seeing 2 of the supposed best Doctors in Ny she was the only one to take the time to really evaluate me and my husband. She diagnosed every issue. She knew IUi was not going to work but the insurance company made her do one round and she didn't want to give me that news so she sat me down prior and told me this procedure with all of my fertility complications and weight it may not work to please not lose hope or give up. Insurance makes you do a round of IUI first but she fought for me and got them to approve IVF the second round so I didn't have to endure more heart ache. She covered every test and base possible to make sure that I was safe and that my embryos were safe. She walked me through every procedure and step and was there the whole time. There was not a time I didn't see her unless it was for simple blood work and her staff was friendly and amazing. My retrieval came. I was anxious she gave me something to calm me down. Unfortunately my 1st round of IVF was failed ( I do believe that was my own fault due to my nerves and anxiety). She also did recommend that frozen embryos have a higher rating of producing then freshly retrieved. When we did our second round a month later. She held my hand and said to me "I'm gonna make you a mom today " AND SHE DID! The wait time is 2 weeks she took a blood panel from me on day 5 and on day 6 she called me to tell me that I did it, we were pregnant with TWINS!!!! She made my wish and dream come true, she even cried delivering me the news. I had a scare about 5 weeks into my pregnancy and she was on a much needed vacation with her family in India, not only did she take my call at 2 am ( her time) but she managed to have a colleague see me immediately, turns out it was normal what I was experiencing, she checked in on me every day on her vacation. Sadly my daughter suffered severe complications and did not make it passed 28 weeks, my son made it to term and was as healthy as can be. He's 8.5 years old now and we are ready to go again and there is nobody that I trust more then her to give me my next baby.
People that are having a hard time don't lose faith or give up because she never gives up on you until all and I mean her options and then some are exhausted. It's an emotional hard rollercoaster but she is with you every step of the way. This woman really is the baby whisperer. You're not just money and a patient to her. That is what makes her so special. I hope at 39 I can still do this but I trust her immensely. I have a miracle because of her faith and never giving up even when I wanted to.

What specific things went wrong at New York Reproductive?
Dr. Karpenko actually spoke to me like I was an intelligent human being capable of understanding and making decisions about my body, family, and medical care (much more rare than it should be!). She took time to meet with me and answer my questions, and always directed me to the right person in her practice to answer non-medical (administrative) questions, and made sure I got the answers I needed. She treated me with care.
This [New York Reproductive] is a small practice (not a huge clinic) that takes a very personalized approach....I have felt well cared for at every step of the way. How was your experience with Galina Karpenko (OB/GYN) at New York Reproductive?
Dr. Karpenko has been a clear and thorough communicator, and I have never felt rushed in her presence. Prior to beginning fertility treatment, I saw her for years as my general gynecologist, and there too I always felt well cared for.

Don't be afraid to ask all of your questions and advocate for your needs. It's been my experience that this often falls on deaf ears at other practices, but it has been my experience that Dr. Karpenko is willing to take the time and make the effort.

Describe your experience with New York Reproductive.
This is a small practice (not a huge clinic) that takes a very personalized approach. Several friends of mine underwent egg freezing at major nearby hospital-affiliated clinics, and they were ALL overstimulated and had to stop treatment. That was not the case for me. I have felt well cared for at every step of the way. I really have nothing negative to say.

She [Dr. Karenpko] is by far the best doctor we've had so far to generally manage this process. We've now worked with her for about 9 months....Dr. Karenpko is also very open to working with other doctors and sharing findings and information so that she can provide the best possible care for her patients....She is the first doctor to run tests that discovered MTHFR (after a few years of doctors) and to identify high glucose blood sugar ratios...again, after other doctors tested for it and missed it or failed to test for it.

How was your experience with Galina Karpenko (OB/GYN) at New York Reproductive?
She is by far the best doctor we've had so far to generally manage this process. We've now worked with her for about 9 months. She is very careful about being too liberal with medications and moving too quickly with any procedures, but is also open to all ideas and trying new strategies. She is careful to analyze the data and the situation and to offer an assessment that she think works best for the patient. Dr. Karenpko is also very open to working with other doctors and sharing findings and information so that she can provide the best possible care for her patients. She is not territorial and her ego does not come before her patients. She advocates on behalf of the patient and works extremely hard (even if it's off hours) to make sure the process is as smooth as possible. When it comes to lab results, she will sometimes call us at night or weekends with results herself, so that we don't have to wait until the next day or a Monday -- she knows how stressful the waiting process can be for anything and is careful to eliminate stress wherever she can. I would have to say that she is also extremely patient and meeting with her or talking with her on the phone never feels hurried. She always makes time to answer all questions and doesn't make you feel stupid for any concern or question you may have. You do not feel like just another number to her and you don't feel like she's out for the money. Dr. K is very dedicated to her profession and to the health of her patients and clearly wants the best for them.
She is the first doctor to run tests that discovered MTHFR (after a few years of doctors) and to identify high glucose blood sugar ratios...again, after other doctors tested for it and missed it or failed to test for it. I did get pregnant with her and have a miscarriage this past summer and she offered great advice, welcomed us talking to other doctors to bring in more information, and was very sensitive throughout the process.
We've now had her talk to a few other doctors and read their analyses and and are finding ways to still work with her and find the best possible protocol.
