Dr. Robles answered every question, is a great active listener...is compassionate and empathetic and seeks to understand and get to know you as a person...anytime I reached out, I received a prompt response...ended up retrieving 31 eggs...17 were mature and one matured overnight so 18 were frozen. M1s and M2s were kept.
[Columbia University] was clean, the building staff were kind (even before you made it to columbia's floor), their lobby was spacious, a lot of natural light, water for patients, wireless phone chargers, comfy chairs and all of the staff were super kind and welcoming...Oh man, this team is so great. They are so happy, cheerful and efficient
How was your experience with Alex Robles at Columbia University?
My experience as a patient was one of the best (and I'm 39). I researched this process significantly, before I met with Dr. Robles and he even acknowledged that. Our initial consult went through the whole process, as a visual learner, I was grateful to have slides that accompanied his words. I didnt even have to take notes because everything was provided to me. Dr. Robles answered every question, is a great active listener. He is compassionate and empathetic and seeks to understand and get to know you as a person. I felt very comfortable expressing concerns and anytime I reached out, I received a prompt response. I felt very supported and prepared for the whole process.
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Alex Robles at Columbia University?
The one thing I would offer to a future patient is to be willing to request and receive support. Ask as many questions as you have, share the concerns, dont suffer in silence. This is a team effort and Dr. Robles is very knowledgeable. As someone that manages anxiety, I can easily overthink or think catastrophic thoughts...dont let your mind play tricks on you. Ask questions and ask for support if you need it, you'll receive it and itll make the process much smoother.
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Alex Robles at Columbia University?
After consulting with 3 other reputable clinics, I chose to embark on my egg freezing journey with Dr.Robles and his incredible team at Columbia Fertility. He was highly recommended by a friend of over 20 years, who had also consulted with various clinics and sought a premium experience. I had my egg retrieval yesterday and want to explain the importance of feeling and being supported throughout this strenuous process, and not feeling like a cog in a machine. I never felt that. From our initial, virtual, consult, the process was explained thoroughly, my questions were answered empathetically and with incredible compassion. Even throughout the process, i could easily email Dr. Robles & team, and receive prompt responses. Their data driven approach allowed me to fully understand where I was, each day of the process. The morning monitoring team (they take your bloodwork and conduct the ultrasounds) were incredible as well, allowing me to take pictures of everything so I could personally document my journey. I was referred to by name, welcomed with smiles, escorted to every room, & checked in with during every step - the last thing I felt like was a number.
Describe the protocols Alex Robles used in your cycles at Columbia University and their degree of success.
I don't recall the exact treatment name but i started with 2 menopur & 225 gonal (on day 2 of my cycle, for 8 days). On the evening of day 4, we introduced cetrotide and took that until day 9 (8 pm shot. On day 9, this was the only shot i took until 2 am for the 2 trigger shots of ovidrel and leuprolide (40 mm). I triggered that evening/early morning on day 10 (2 am). My baseline appointment on day 2 of my cycle showed 23 cycles so i was expecting less than that in my retrieval. They ended up retrieving 31 eggs! Which is why i said i didnt necessarily get the results we expected, because the expectations were exceeded. 17 were mature and one matured overnight so 18 were frozen. M1s and M2s were kept.
Describe your experience with your nurse at Columbia University. (Assigned nurse: Haley Roche)
Oh man, this team is so great. They are so happy, cheerful and efficient. My appointments were super quick but never rushed. My post morning monitoring emails were always kind, with words of affirmation, very direct guidance, videos to help show me how to take the medications. I never felt confused or out of the loop. When the morning monitoring/ultrasound techs saw me taking notes on my phone, they offered to let me take pictures of my chart and explained everything thoroughly. It was a wonderful experience and one I looked forward to.
Describe your experience with Columbia University.
The clinic is in a central location, very easy to get to driving or using public transportation. Parking is also easily accessible so getting to clinic was stress free. It was clean, the building staff were kind (even before you made it to columbia's floor), their lobby was spacious, a lot of natural light, water for patients, wireless phone chargers, comfy chairs and all of the staff were super kind and welcoming. They seemed to really like what they did, where they worked and their colleagues. It always lifted my spirits interacting with them.
Describe the costs associated with your care under Alex Robles at Columbia University.
My insurance is covering this but my meds cost $1700. I havent seen the billing for the egg freezing yet but i know i already met my deductible for the year.

Dr. Robles' strengths include being very caring, thoughtful, understanding, and highly able to adapt to his patients' needs and concerns...conducted all of my procedures, going out of his way to show up when he learned I was less comfortable with another doctor...was very honest about the risks, set expectations well...we froze twice as many embryos as I thought we were going to have
[Columbia University] is very organized and thoughtful at the same time, with a patient-centric approach. Quality care appears to be their top priority, which is amazing and makes patients feel very cared for...Haley and the team were very prompt and thoughtful about giving detailed updates after every bloodwork visit / procedure...minor feedback point is she missed 1-2 of my emailed follow up questions.
How was your experience with Alex Robles at Columbia University?
Dr. Robles' strengths include being very caring, thoughtful, understanding, and highly able to adapt to his patients' needs and concerns. As a person with a higher science degree, he brought data/publications to our discussion about pros/cons of different IVF strategies, which I really appreciated. He also conducted all of my procedures, going out of his way to show up when he learned I was less comfortable with another doctor (that I didnt know well) doing it.
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Alex Robles at Columbia University?
Don't be afraid to ask questions and be proactive! Dr. Robles is very supportive of all questions. And, he changed my mind about "only seeing female doctors" for fertility -- he always made me feel safe and understood.
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Alex Robles at Columbia University?
Dr. Robles is compassionate, thoughtful, and always willing to spend extra time answering my questions. He never ever made me feel rushed and I can tell he truly cares about his patients. I normally don't do reviews, but I honestly believe he is the best fertility / OBGYN doctor I have ever met, and I've tried 5 different doctors before meeting him.
Describe the protocols Alex Robles used in your cycles at Columbia University and their degree of success.
Myself and my partner froze embryos and Dr. Robles guided us through the entire process, about diet / rest / exercise and tips to help promote successful retrieval. He was very honest about the risks, set expectations well, and I'd say he over-delivered because we froze twice as many embryos as I thought we were going to have in only one try which was a big relief to me.
Describe your experience with your nurse at Columbia University. (Assigned nurse: Haley R.)
Haley and the team were very prompt and thoughtful about giving detailed updates after every bloodwork visit / procedure. I also appreciated that they were excited to help me through the process. My minor feedback point is she missed 1-2 of my emailed follow up questions.

Dr. Robles was very thoughtful throughout the care...he tried to attend as many of the visits and procedures...thoroughly answered my questions and explained options and results to me...was a great communicator and put us at ease...made sure that the treatment we were getting was customized to our needs
moved to Columbia and was thoroughly impressed with the care, the staff...really helped make me feel at ease and helped through some issues around receiving medications and other questions...area of opportunities I would say is enabling patients to see their lab results themselves
How was your experience with Alex Robles at Columbia University?
As mentioned in my previous comment, we were very appreciative our care with Dr. Robles. He was a great communicator and put us at ease during a time that can be quite stressful. You could also tell that he truly cared about us as his patients and made sure that the treatment we were getting was customized to our needs. He was also very good about thoughtfully answering our questions and clearly explaining different steps.
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Alex Robles at Columbia University?
Definitely go see him!
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Alex Robles at Columbia University?

All of staff that worked with Dr. Robles were great. They also really helped make me feel at ease and helped through some issues around receiving medications and other questions. Really appreciate them!
Describe your experience with Columbia University.
I had used another clinic for my first pregnancy and, while it turned out to be successful I had some concerns with the experience. I then moved to Columbia and was thoroughly impressed with the care, the staff, and Dr. Robles. I will plan to go there for future transfers and look forward to recommending it to all friends going through fertility treatments. My only area of opportunities I would say is enabling patients to see their lab results themselves vs. only through communication from the nursing team would be very nice for those that like to review their results. Additionally, there were a few times where I did ask non-urgent questions and did not end up receiving answers. Again nothing that took away from the care, but areas that I would say could be improved.
Describe the costs associated with your care under Alex Robles at Columbia University.
My treatment was covered by insurance - but I did need to pay for copays for each visit and then for PGT-A.
Describe Alex Robles's approach to eSET (elective single embryo transfer) vs. multiple embryo transfer at Columbia University.
We did eSET, which is what we wanted so multiple embryo transfer was not discussed

Dr Robles is an amazing practitioner! He took time to be present in every appointment including early ultrasounds in the beginning of my IVF cycle. I was struck by the fiercely warm smile he greeted me with during each appointment. It was disarming and calming which is exactly what I needed. Other things that stand out is he called me by first name, explained all aspects of my treatment in great details and showed genuine care in regards to my questions and concerns. Lastly, he made himself available for questions via email and always provided quick responses.

I always tried to make sure I sat in the area near the water dispenser when names were called. It can be difficult for patients sitting on the opposite end because of the music and names are not being said loud enough.

Dr. Robles was patient, detail oriented, and incredibly empathetic. I felt supported, listened to, and understood the whole way. I was at increased risk of hyper stimulation and Dr. Robles helped walk me through each care decision he...made to derisk any unpleasant symptoms...checked in frequently, including over his weekends and outside of typical office hours to see how I was feeling. Even post-retrieval, he sent helpful emails and resources about follow-up questions on my mind. 10/10 medical experience and would highly recommend anyone uncertain about their fertility journey to pay him a visit.
Columbia nursing staff was excellent including over email, via daily monitoring, and the phlebotomy team. I heard back promptly on any questions, had multiple methods to contact them (phone, email, etc.)...Top medical experience I have ever had. AM monitoring can be a bit busy/fast but I appreciated the speed and efficiency. 10/10 experience - highly professional, compassionate care the whole way. New patients should know that the Dr. may not be present at every single morning monitoring (although I did not ask them to be) but I felt in great hands with the nursing staff and the Dr. was always available when I asked or if I booked an AM monitoring appointment late enough that their day had started.

Dr. Robles was incredible - he remembered small details about my life/career plans not specifically related to treatment and you could tell he was always listening. He called multiple times outside of typical office hours to see how I was doing, emailed promptly, and called me on a weekend evening before my retrieval to check-in. Truly the most kind and attentive healthcare experience I have ever had.

Columbia nursing staff was excellent including over email, via daily monitoring, and the phlebotomy team. I heard back promptly on any questions, had multiple methods to contact them (phone, email, etc.), and felt true continuity of care even if I did not see same nurse for every AM monitoring. From our first consultation, I just knew I was in great hands. Dr. Robles’ in-depth knowledge was immediately apparent. With a sterling clarity of thought, he transformed medical terminologies into simple, comprehendible information. How was your experience with Alex Robles at Columbia University?
During the ups and downs of the fertility treatments, Dr. Robles was a constant source of support. He would be present at every single appointment, offering guidance and encouragement, which made even the most challenging days feel more manageable. I can vividly recall walking into his office feeling anxious and leaving with newfound hope and a smile, knowing that I was in the hands of someone who genuinely cared. As mentioned before there was one particular moment that will forever stay with me. On the day of my scheduled egg retrieval, I received news that Dr. Robles wouldn't be available due to prior commitments. My heart sank at the thought of having someone else perform the procedure. I shared my concerns with Dr. Robles, and he listened with utmost compassion. To my amazement, on the day of the procedure, which happened to be a weekend, Dr. Robles came in specifically to perform my egg retrieval. The relief and gratitude I felt were overwhelming. It was a clear testament to his dedication and unwavering commitment to his patients' care. Dr. Robles prioritized understanding my medical history and tailored a protocol specifically suited for me. When I sent him my fertility medical records from another clinic, it was a significant amount of information, albeit disorganized and challenging to follow. Nonetheless, Dr. Robles dedicated time to thoroughly study and comprehend every record and data point from my fertility journey. Despite the potentially tedious nature of regular check-ins, I found myself eagerly looking forward to each appointment under Dr. Robles' care. As time progressed, my trust and confidence in him only deepened. Dr. Robles demonstrated unparalleled attention to detail, recollecting every aspect of my case and monitoring my progress closely. I always had numerous questions and a strong desire to know the results of my bloodwork at each appointment. Dr. Robles ensured that I received those numbers after every visit, providing a written summary of the session and clear instructions for the following days. He remained flexible, making adjustments to the treatment plan based on my body's responses. One aspect that truly stood out was Dr. Robles' accessibility and responsiveness. He was always available and promptly replied to my emails. If I needed to talk to him, he would call me back the same day. This constant availability made me feel genuinely cared for and instilled confidence in the quality of care I was receiving. Moreover, Dr. Robles displayed an extraordinary ability to remember even the minutest details about my case, following up on them during subsequent visits. This level of attentiveness made me feel valued as a patient, reinforcing the trust I had in his expertise.
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Alex Robles at Columbia University?
Ensure complete openness about your medical history, concerns, expectations, and ultimate objectives. This level of transparency will enable Dr. Robles to customize your treatment plan for optimal results. It also facilitates the management of expectations, which I find to be quite reassuring. I highly encourage you to be as forthcoming as possible since Dr. Robles possesses an extraordinary ability to uncover solutions and make the most out of any situation. Rest assured, you won't be disappointed; it's akin to having both a trusted therapist and Reproductive Endocrinologist rolled into one.
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Alex Robles at Columbia University?
My experience with Dr. Alex Robles has been nothing short of spectacular. From our first consultation, I just knew I was in great hands. Dr. Robles’ in-depth knowledge was immediately apparent. With a sterling clarity of thought, he transformed medical terminologies into simple, comprehendible information. His empathetic and knowledgeable approach not only alleviated my anxiety but also filled me with hope for the future. Words cannot do justice to his level of care and expertise, and I can't imagine going through the experience with another doctor. The pronounced improvement in the number of eggs retrieved and eggs matured during my initial egg retrieval at another highly regarded fertility center was truly astounding. This only further underscored the efficacy of Dr. Robles' individualized approach and protocol, attesting to the fact that it genuinely works for each patient Dr. Robles personally made sure I felt taken care of every step of the way. During our first consultation, I told him about my experience with my first fertility Doctor and my concerns about her lack of involvement during the whole process. Every appointment was delegated to a different nurse I never saw a doctor until the day of my retrieval and it wasn't performed by my doctor. I felt like a nuance through the process. From the very beginning, Dr. Alex Robles was there for every single appointment, from bloodwork to ultrasound, never relegating me to the care of someone less familiar with my case. He was always fully present, listening attentively to my concerns, and answering my questions with patience and thoroughness. There was a level of personal care and attention to detail that was so consistent, it was almost like he was entirely dedicated to my case alone. Moreover, his ability to recall specifics about my medical history without even a glance at his notes was astonishing. It created a sense of continuity and personal connection that was deeply reassuring. It was as though every nuance of my case was always at the forefront of his mind. He didn't just listen; he engaged, understanding my medical history and current concerns with the thoroughness that is a rare find in today's fast-paced medical environment. What I also greatly appreciated was Dr. Robles respect for my input. He valued my thoughts and perspective, making me feel like an active participant in my healthcare, rather than just a passive recipient of it. His approach was highly patient-centric. What struck me most about Dr. Robles was his genuine interest in my well-being and his unwavering commitment to achieving excellent results. Throughout the entire process, I had the privilege of seeing Dr. Robles during every single one of my appointments. On challenging days, he was there to guide me, offering support and reassurance. After each visit, I always felt better, leaving with renewed hope and a smile. However, during the last consultation before my scheduled egg retrieval, I received unexpected news that another doctor would be performing the procedure as Dr. Robles was not available that weekend. I couldn't help but feel a sense of sadness, as I had grown so comfortable and confident with Dr. Robles by my side. Remarkably, on the day of the procedure, which was a Sunday, Dr. Robles surprised me by coming in solely to perform my egg retrieval. The relief and happiness I felt were beyond words. This act of kindness and dedication demonstrated just how much Dr. Robles truly cares about his patients and how he goes above and beyond to ensure their well-being and comfort. I am forever grateful for Dr. Robles' exceptional care and commitment to my journey toward parenthood. He is more than just a remarkable physician; he is a compassionate and extraordinary human being.

Trust Dr. Robles, it just takes time.
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Alex Robles at Columbia University?
Dr. Robles was amazing from the start. He took the time to explain where we were in our fertility journey. We were told after 2x failed IVF cycles we would need egg donation and Dr. Robles was willing to try and communicate with us. We traveled from Illinois to New York City for his care - every family deserves the level of care and compassion he has for his patients. He is beyond brilliant but a kind soul. He goes out of his way to say hello when his patients are in the office even if it is just for an ultrasound. He is available through a direct email address and actually gives you a call to share results. The entire staff at Columbia is amazing and makes you feel like you really matter.

Hayley and Sophie complete the package with a bow for Dr. Robles incredible team! They're both amazing and fast communicators. No question is dumb and they both exempt the care and compassion that he does.
Describe your experience with Columbia University.
The entire office at Columbia is spotless, clean and runs exceptionally well. The nurses and staff are extraordinarily friendly. They always knew we were traveling from Illinois and would sometimes have luggage or a flight delay and they were flexible. The entire staff will speak to you and ensure you know what is going on before a surgical procedure. They provide you with real robes so you don't feel entirely exposed and welcome the presence of your partner or chaperone so that you are comfortable. It was always easy to schedule my appointments or ask questions.
Describe your experience with your monitoring appointments at Columbia University.
It was an efficient well oiled machine!
Describe Alex Robles's approach to eSET (elective single embryo transfer) vs. multiple embryo transfer at Columbia University.
The genetic embryo testing was very helpful due to our family history. The results came back quickly and Dr. Robles called us to explain them. This testing also gave us additional confidence in the success of our embryo transfer.

Describe the protocols Alex Robles used in your cycles at Columbia University and their degree of success.
Got oversight from my endo. as I'm diabetic (type 1). Went in for monitoring to Columbia every few days for bloodwork & ultrasound. After cycle started and had 1st monitoring session (day 3), started 2 medications nightlight between 5-10PM. After about 5 days, started a 3rd medication. Once I was ready for a trigger shot, took that 36 hours before procedure, continued to come in for monitoring. One medication with dinner the night before the egg retrieval.

Dr. Robles was always very responsive via e-mail and would call to follow-up as well. When I went into the office, he would make sure all my questions were answered and explained everything to me with kindness and care while recognizing this was an emotional journey. He ensured I could see the ultrasound at the same time as me, which was helpful and brought me along on the journey.
Good experience overall, but I think clinics like Columbia could benefit from learning from KindBody and similar clinics to make the entire experience feel more human and not completely like a hospital...Dr. Robles was great in coordinating care and making me feel very comfortable about having consistent care from him and his immediate team. I do think it would be helpful to consider the process more about exercise, vitamins, and holistic health to factor in that could help with egg freezing process and the overall experience of the person going through it. I think he would be very responsive to this feedback, which is amazing!

Overall, Dr.
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Alex Robles at Columbia University?
Ensure you also do your own homework about what to expect on the journey and perhaps have a buddy who has experienced it to know what to expect each day.
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Alex Robles at Columbia University?
Describe the protocols Alex Robles used in your cycles at Columbia University and their degree of success.
Overall, I worked with the nurse to ensure I knew how to inject myself. I would recommend that people use an ice pack which I learned from a friend and have a heating pad as well, which is helpful.
Describe your experience with Columbia University.
Good experience overall, but I think clinics like Columbia could benefit from learning from KindBody and similar clinics to make the entire experience feel more human and not completely like a hospital. People may want that, too, but just a suggestion.
Describe the costs associated with your care under Alex Robles at Columbia University.

Dr Robles was nothing short of terrific...was consistently warm, respectful, attentfull, and willing to answer every single one of my (many) questions...set very realistic expectations considering my PCOS...was always the person conducting the ultrasounds and, of course, in the OR with me during egg retrieval
[Columbia University was] Extremely efficient and accommodating whenever I had an unforeseen schedule conflict...facilities were clean, modern, yet displayed warmth...I can't say enough positive things about...the entire CUFC care team -- from the patient coordinator (Sophie) to the OR nurses and billing coordinator (Jennifer).
How was your experience with Alex Robles at Columbia University?
My experience with Dr Robles couldn't possibly be better. I must highlight the fact that, with one exception (on a Sunday), he was always the person conducting the ultrasounds and, of course, in the OR with me during egg retrieval. He's extremely attentive, warm, genuinely caring, and willing to each and every question I ever had.
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Alex Robles at Columbia University?
The only advice I could give a prospective patient is to choose Dr Robles. :)
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Alex Robles at Columbia University?
Dr Robles was nothing short of terrific. He was consistently warm, respectful, attentfull, and willing to answer every single one of my (many) questions. He set very realistic expectations considering my PCOS so the outcome of the process was not a surprise. Speaking as someone who never had always been hesitant to see a male OB-GYN, I can't say enough positive things about Dr Robles and the entire CUFC care team -- from the patient coordinator (Sophie) to the OR nurses and billing coordinator (Jennifer).
Describe your experience with Columbia University.
Extremely efficient and accommodating whenever I had an unforeseen schedule conflict. The facilities were clean, modern, yet displayed warmth. The only downside, which I was aware of, is that it was extremely far away from my house.

Dr. Robles is an amazing doctor. He is so warm and friendly which was so important during such a emotional time undergoing fertility treatments. My husband and I felt that he showed compassion, empathy, and true care for us and our situation the whole time. He truly listened to our concerns and took time to review our test results or take a call with us even when he was at home for the day. He never made us feel silly to ask a question and always answered emails quickly no matter how big or small the question. I felt that he really cared for us as people and always had a way of making us feel positive. I can’t say enough good things!
The Columbia Fertility Center is beautiful and a pleasant place to be. Appointments are fast and painless and every staff member is warm and friendly. The administrators are also very sweet and communicative. I couldn’t be happier with the facility...Dr. Robles made us feel seen and heard. He made my husband and I feel so cared for the entire process. He really goes the extra mile to answer any questions/concerns and never dismisses them.

He [Dr. Robles] immediately made me feel at ease and explained everything thoroughly. He was very honest in terms of what to expect based on the numbers and the impact that the treatment would have on me physically. All in all it was really a breeze and I felt completely supported. On the visits where I did not see Dr. Robles directly, he reached out to me by phone or email almost immediately to follow up
For me the [Columbia University] clinic was so convenient and easy to get to which considering the frequency of visits was incredibly important - the scheduling was a breeze and I was typically in and out within 15-20 minutes. How was your experience with Alex Robles at Columbia University?
I had a lot of apprehension going into this procedure and had already seen another doctor previously who I really did not feel was the right fit. Dr Robles, he really took time getting to know me and my partner...never ever did I feel rushed...easy to get in touch with and never made me feel like I was bothering him for reaching out...egg retrieval protocol was with gonal-f, menopur, and cetrotide. We also used ICSI and ended up with 4 embryos. We also decided to do PGT testing and all 4 were genetically normal...frozen embryo transfer, I was on estradiol tablets and progesterone in oil injections
[Columbia University] is very efficient, I never felt like I had to wait too long for my appointment/tests...Hayley was Dr Robles nurse. She was very responsive via email and I almost always hears back the same day or early next day...All of their communication is done via email...ultrasound techs are very knowledgeable and do a great job...educated on the tradeoff and comfortable with transferring one embryo at a time
How was your experience with Alex Robles at Columbia University?
I could not say enough positive things about my experience with Dr Robles. Even though my protocol for IVF wasn't much different than my first fertility clinic, he gave us confidence that we would have different results- and we did! He was always very personable and really took time to see how I was doing with the treatments. There were a few times where I had time sensitive questions and I sent emails to both him and his nurse, they both responded right away. He was easy to get in touch with and never made me feel like I was bothering him for reaching out. It was also nice to be able to go to him directly, although I usually tried to reach out to his nurse first. I really felt like he was a partner in this whole journey, and walked me and my husband through every step.
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Alex Robles at Columbia University?
Don't hesitate, make your appointment with him
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Alex Robles at Columbia University?
During my initial telehealth consultation with Dr Robles, he really took time getting to know me and my partner. He took his time, and never ever did I feel rushed. Even from the first consult, I knew we were in good hands. The first time I met him in person, he walked in the room and called me by my nickname, which I was so surprised he took the time to write down and remember.
Describe the protocols Alex Robles used in your cycles at Columbia University and their degree of success.
My egg retrieval protocol was with gonal-f, menopur, and cetrotide. We also used ICSI and ended up with 4 embryos. We also decided to do PGT testing and all 4 were genetically normal. For my first frozen embryo transfer, I was on estradiol tablets and progesterone in oil injections. We ended up transferring on day 13 because I had a follicle growing. This transfer was not successful. My second transfer we had the same medications, but transferred much later around day 25 of my cycle, and this was successful!
Describe your experience with your nurse at Columbia University. (Assigned nurse: Hayley and Sophie)
Hayley was Dr Robles nurse. She was very responsive via email and I almost always hears back the same day or early next day. There were few times were things felt very time sensitive and needed Dr Robles, so I emailed him directly. Otherwise I felt very comfortable going through Hayley. Sophie was his coordinator who helped with scheduling appointments and tests. In the beginning I did have one mishap, where I had emailed to confirm the time and date of an exam but it was never actually scheduled. This was frustrating because the test was time/cycle dependent and I ended up having to rearrange my schedule to make sure it got done. All of the medical assistance and ultrasound techs are phenomenal. Very professional, kind, and always made me feel comfortable
Describe your experience with Columbia University.
Clinic is very efficient, I never felt like I had to wait too long for my appointment/tests. Most times I was in and out of monitoring appointments within 15-20 minutes. All of their communication is done via email. At first this was an adjustment, but since they are very responsive it was not a negative for me. Sometimes monitoring appointments were done by Dr Robles or another provider in the office and sometimes done by an ultrasound tech. I think the ultrasound techs are very knowledgeable and do a great job
Describe the costs associated with your care under Alex Robles at Columbia University.
Fortunately, most of our cost was covered by insurance. We paid $2100 for PGT testing
Describe Alex Robles's approach to eSET (elective single embryo transfer) vs. multiple embryo transfer at Columbia University.
I felt educated on the tradeoff and comfortable with transferring one embryo at a time
What specific things went wrong at Columbia University?
  • Lost appointments
Describe the specific things that went wrong at Columbia University.
One instance where I was emailing back and forth with the coordinator to schedule a test that needed to be done. I had sent an email confirming the date and time of the exam, but it was never actually scheduled. This led to me having to arrange my schedule/travel to get the exam done on time, but it did not delay any of my treatments

How was your experience with Alex Robles at Columbia University?
I honestly felt like Dr Robles was a pleasure to work with. He is so knowledgeable and we tackled this journey step by step and he explained everything to me at all times. I felt like an active participant in my care, and I also felt like he really cared about what was happening with me. He checked in on me even after the surgery and continued to do so. I can’t wait for Dr Robles to help us start our family!

No advice needed! He is great.
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Alex Robles at Columbia University?
Dr Robles made sure to help me understand what was happening every step of the way, and even came to do some of the morning monitoring appointments during my egg retrieval cycle (which we all know it isn’t completely necessary for the doctor himself to do the sonograms) but he did them and made me feel so comfortable and informed during the process! I definitely did NOT feel like a number, I always felt like a human.
Describe the protocols Alex Robles used in your cycles at Columbia University and their degree of success.
I have PCOS so we did menopaur, gonal, and centrotide in order to stop premature ovulation. My husband was having a sperm extraction so it all had to be timed very very specifically and Dr Robles worked with my husband’s doctor (Doctor Alukal at Columbia Urology) and we had successful results!
Describe your experience with your nurse at Columbia University. (Assigned nurse: Haley & Sophie! Both fantastic )
Great communication, always kept me in the loop and feeling comfortable answering any and all questions (and I had a lot of questions!)

How was your experience with Alex Robles at Columbia University?
Dr. Robles is very skilled and made the egg freezing process a seamless experience for me. Nothing caught me by surprise, as he communicated what to expect every step of the way. I'm extremely happy with my results and feel really lucky that he was my doctor. Not only is Dr. Robles trustworthy, he has a warm, calming presence that will put anyone at ease. These qualities are so important, especially for a procedure as sensitive as egg freezing.
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Alex Robles at Columbia University?
If I could give advice to a prospective patient, it would be to know what your goals are and to communicate them, trust the process, and don't be shy about asking questions. Dr. Robles helped me determine what the best diet would be leading up to and during treatment as well as what supplements are okay. He was also thorough in sharing what to avoid. Based on my experience, I can assure you won't go wrong with him as your provider.
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Alex Robles at Columbia University?
Throughout the entire egg freezing process, Dr. Robles was always genuine, kind, and empathetic. He made me feel like a human being and not just another patient. I sincerely appreciated him taking the time to patiently answer my questions whenever I had any. On the day of my retrieval, I was scheduled under a different doctor, but Dr. Robles made sure to come in and perform my retrieval himself. This gave me peace of mind, and I'm so grateful for his care. After retrieval, Dr. Robles checked in to see that I was doing okay. I'm thankful to him for making my experience stress-free and highly recommend him to anyone interested in egg freezing. You will be in good hands!
Describe the protocols Alex Robles used in your cycles at Columbia University and their degree of success.
Treatment lasted approximately two weeks for me. On day three of my cycle, I came in to the clinic for lab work. I began administering two types of shots later that evening. Almost every other day, I would come in to the clinic for ultrasound and blood work. Part of the way through treatment, I had to add a third shot into my nightly routine. The clinic visits increased to almost daily toward the end. Finally, I was able to take my trigger medications, and the retrieval followed a few days after. Everything went smoothly, and Dr. Robles and the care team always kept me informed on next steps.
Describe your experience with your nurse at Columbia University. (Assigned nurse: Haley Roche)
My assigned nurse Haley and care coordinator Sophie were great to work with. Both were very responsive and clear communicators. During treatment, Haley's instructions were detailed and straightforward. I always felt that I was in the loop thanks to both of them.

My monitoring appointments happened in the mornings. Columbia gave me a window to choose from, and it was easy to fit these appointments into my schedule. During each appointment, I was able to complete everything within fifteen minutes or less. At the same time, I never felt rushed. The whole process is well thought out and designed.

How was your experience with Alex Robles at Columbia University?
Dr. Robles was made to be a fertility doctor. He is incredibly kind and compassionate. He has a calm and optimistic demeanor which really lent to my peace of mind throughout the process. He was always reachable and remembered details of my care without referencing his notes which made me feel like I was not just a number, but a valued patient. I have low egg count, so it was important for me to have the best outcome I could given the process and expense associated with fertility treatment. Dr. Robles was always honest about what I could and should expect, but also radiated so much positive energy that it passed to me and I believe improved my outcomes. I highly recommend him to anyone seeking treatment.
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Alex Robles at Columbia University?
Don’t be afraid to ask questions. He is forthcoming and helpful.
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Alex Robles at Columbia University?
I switched to CUFS after having a frankly traumatizing experience at RMA- where I had gone in for a consult and been informed I had a lower than anticipated follicle count and ushered into the financial office still in tears at the news. I was nervous to seek out more fertility consultation because of this experience, but I am so happy that I did, and so happy that it was with Dr. Robles. He treated me with extreme kindness and understanding. He provided information without judgment. While the doctor I saw at RMA told me I had to freeze embryos “yesterday” and called me later to urge me to schedule ASAP because I was running out of time, Dr. Robles offered informed insight when I had questions about the timing and extent of treatment that I wanted to pursue. I NEVER felt like a number and never felt like this was a business- just a medical professional genuinely interested in providing care and optimal outcomes to his patients.
Describe the protocols Alex Robles used in your cycles at Columbia University and their degree of success.
I did one round of egg retrieval for freezing. I believe I followed the typical course for this treatment.
Describe your experience with your nurse at Columbia University. (Assigned nurse: Haley Roche RN, Sophie Clark coordinator )
I had a very positive experience with my whole care team. They were reachable and responsive via email. I had a positive experience with the clinical and office staff at the offices. They were friendly and efficient.
Describe your experience with Columbia University.
Strengths: well organized, compassionate, accessible, straight forward and honest, and offered reasonable self pay prices (especially as compared to the other clinic I had consulted with) My only negative/stressful experience was with my pharmacy, who had not included the appropriate size needle when they delivered my medication. I didn’t realize this until I was sent instructions for the administration of my trigger shot, which had to be administered later in the day. The pharmacy was in another borough and said they couldn’t deliver on time, so there was a high stress wild goose chase for a bit to find a local pharmacy to fill this. Again- this is related to the pharmacy, not CUFS. My recommendation is to review not only medications, but instruments you'll need to use to mix/administer meds in advance. If I were to do it again I would also chose a closer pharmacy (I had opted for this one because of a slight price edge).
Describe the costs associated with your care under Alex Robles at Columbia University.
All self pay- my insurance did not cover any elective fertility tx and I was seen for egg retrieval. I did not qualify for any med discounts. $5400 meds (may differ based on pharmacy- you are provided with many options to make an informed choice) $8000 CUFS appointments and procedures from start of egg freezing process to end $600 anesthesia for retrieval $1200/year egg storage
