[Dr. Paul Zarutskie is] Very knowledgeable and experienced doctor. He is willing to consider the parts of this process that have a lot of science behind it as well as some of the supportive therapies that may not be proven but have anecdotal support if you are interested. He is very thorough and considerate. He has a great bedside manner and listens to patient concerns.... Dr Z goes above and beyond to make things make sense and answer any questions we have. He has called me personally to update me at each step of the egg retrieval/fertilization so far. His nurses are always responsive to questions and have always felt comfortable running things by him.
Clinic staff [at Baylor/ Texas Children's] are friendly and helpful. They are almost always running on time. Since they are in the medical center, it was easy for me to access them since I work there. Financial counseling is available every day and gave us an idea of what to expect when we started.... Brandy has been very responsive to questions and concerns. She is knowledgeable, but also always talks to Dr Z when necessary.

We are still in treatment right now for recurrent pregnancy loss. He was extremely thorough in his work up. He has been patient and supportive as we navigate the IVF journey. We have had one successful egg retrieval and are waiting to here embryo numbers in the next few days. We will hopefully have a frozen transfer with Dr Z as well.

He [Dr. Paul Zarutskie] has the perfect combination of compassion, empathy, realism and deep medical expertise that you want in a doctor in this field. He is a terrific communicator in a field where a lot of the decisions for patients are not black and white; he always answered any and all questions I had in great detail and was honest when the "right" decision was a bit ambiguous. He always did his best to put himself if my shoes and consider all implications of any decisions I made -- emotionally, physically and financially.
I was absolutely treated like a human and not a number [at Baylor/Texas Childrens]. They understand this is not an easy process for the patients and do their best to communicate in an effective, empathetic manner...entire staff was professional and great at communication. My primary nurse was Brandy, who was fantastic. Everything is through the patient portal, and she was always prompt to respond to any questions I sent through that.
How was your experience with Paul Zarutskie at Baylor / Texas Childrens?
Dr. Zarutskie was recommended by a friend I trust a great deal. He has the perfect combination of compassion, empathy, realism and deep medical expertise that you want in a doctor in this field. This does not happen with all doctors, which is why I fully trusted him throughout this journey. It felt like he was a true partner along the whole journey with me, rather than just an advisor. Given my endometriosis diagnosis, he always explained all the risk factors in a straightforward and clear manner. He also made sure he was the one to do my retrievals and call me with the results himself; I appreciated his hands-on approach as it was clear he was putting his patients first.
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Paul Zarutskie at Baylor / Texas Childrens?
He is willing and wanting to answers any and all questions you may have at any stage of the process. He has decades of experience in this field, so come prepared with all your questions and write things down if it helps; he will spend as much time as you need to feel comfortable and fully informed before making any decisions.

Egg retrieval for egg preservation. Lupron, menopur, gonal F, HCG trigger.
Describe your experience with your nurse at Baylor / Texas Childrens. (Assigned nurse: Brandy)
Dr. Zarutskie's entire staff was professional and great at communication. My primary nurse was Brandy, who was fantastic. Everything is through the patient portal, and she was always prompt to respond to any questions I sent through that. She also was very empathetic and compassionate about how she communicated with patients, which always helps as it's already a stressful process to begin with. The front desk staff and ultrasound techs were also very professional and kind; I only had positive experiences with all of them.
Describe your experience with Baylor / Texas Childrens.
Ultrasound appts and lab appts both started at 7am every day, which is very convenient for patients who work full time. The only downside to this clinic is that it's part of TCH so there was always a wait to get your labs done given the high number of patients being treated in the same lab.
Describe the costs associated with your care under Paul Zarutskie at Baylor / Texas Childrens.
I had great insurance coverage, but if you do have to pay out of pocket, the clinic offers a very competitive self-pay discount for those patients.

Dr. Zarutskie approaches each visit like we're old friends. He takes his time explaining every detail of the process and answering questions. He doesn't feel like a treating physician but like a partner on this journey. And as busy as he is, he's always respectful of our time....Dr. Zarutskie is friendly and thoughtful. He is patient in explaining the processes and how/why each factor comes into play. We feel assured and informed and appreciate the time that he takes with us.
They [Baylor / TX Childrens] are always responsive, organized and friendly....I always prefer working with specialist that are affiliated with teaching hospitals like Baylor. I feel like because they aren't an independent clinic there isn't as much push to get higher numbers and there is a more personal approach. I also appreciate that it's on the rail line and convenient to get to from downtown....Dr. Zarutskie is friendly and thoughtful.
