During my first consultation with Dr. Martin, I felt like I had his undivided attention and was his only patient. I knew immediately I wanted to move forward with treatment under his care and since then, I never felt rushed in any way. Dr. Martin was honest & upfront but delivered news in a very compassionate way. I experienced a chemical pregnancy following my first embryo transfer and Dr. Martin immediately adjusted my protocol for my 2nd transfer which was successful.
I loved everything about the medical care of Shady Grove Warrington - front desk, phlebotomy, nursing, Dr. Martin. I would tell a new patient to be prepared to wait 15 or so minutes to be seen occasionally (especially during late morning appointments). Also, especially if using Shared Risk Program, be prepared to have issues with billing. The billing department needs some serious help - they don't respond to messages or calls.

Due to my extreme diminished ovarian reserve, we decided to start immediately with IVF with ICSI under the Shared Risk Program. My egg retrieval protocol was the Microdose Lupron one, with estrogen patch priming followed by Gonal (450 daily) and Menopur (150, increased to 225). Right before my trigger shot, I only had 8 follicles and was preparing myself to have to do a 2nd egg retrieval. My results were 8 retrieved, 5 mature, 5 fertilized, 4 blasts and 3 PGT tested embryos. I was thrilled with these results. My first FET ended in a chemical pregnancy and my 2nd transfer was successful.

I did Shared Risk Program - I spent about 7k on medicine, 2k on genetic testing, and 27k for the treatment
Dr. Martin showed so much compassion and made it a point to some out in the waiting room and great us ladies and remembered key point of our charts. He is always working to put a smile on your face, while being sympathetic to our causes. I have not seen any weaknesses with his course of treatment, despite our failure. I would recommend him to anyone, and have...He has not given up and knows we can make amazing embryos and implant, we just need to get there.
The [Shady Grove Fertility Pennsylvania] clinic is amazing in all aspects in my opinion. A lot of reviews say the billing department in sub-par, but I am 100% self-pay and have had no issues. The staff is always accommodating to my busy schedule and will allow me to book first available appointments at 7am so I can make it to work. All staff members remember your name and your course of treatment.

Dr. Martin is very caring and is always in my corner. Our first FET was ended in an 11 week miscarriage and he was there every step of the way. He has not given up on us. Our last transfer we tried a modified natural and he was rooting for us. He even shed some tears that it did not work. He has not given up and knows we can make amazing embryos and implant, we just need to get there.

Describe Ryan Martin's approach to eSET (elective single embryo transfer) vs. multiple embryo transfer at Shady Grove Fertility Pennsylvania (US Fertility Network clinic).
SGF starts with single transfers and does not do multiple unless it is deemed medically necessary
Dr. Martin made me feel heard, understood and comfortable throughout our entire IVF journey. Despite the circumstances of not being able to conceive naturally, Dr. Martin made our dreams come true. He is always compassionate, has handled many of my tears and I truly get sad when we “graduate” to our OB/GYN because of his outstanding care. I would recommend him 1000/10 to every and anyone I know who needs a fertility specialist.
The [Shady Grove Fertility Pennsylvania] clinic was comfortable. The reception staff was as friendly and easy to work with as everyone else. At the end of each cycle I feel like they knew me by name and cared about us and our situation...[nurses were] always available to answer questions and calm my anxieties during the whole process. I truly felt like they cared about me and my outcome as if I was there only patient (which I know I was certainly one of MANY!) but it still felt that way.

From the very first video chat we had with Dr. Martin during the middle of COVID, we felt an immediate connection. He was warm and inviting even over a computer screen. That continued throughout the entire time we’ve seen him, which is two IVF cycles now. I always felt comfortable calling and asking questions, I never felt like a burden and I truly know in my heart that Dr. Martin cared about my husband and I and helping us get pregnant!

Describe the costs associated with your care under Ryan Martin at Shady Grove Fertility Pennsylvania (US Fertility Network clinic).
The first time around, my insurance covered the majority of the expenses including the egg retrieval and all medicine, the transfer, etc. I only had a co-pay of $25 for office visits. The second time, my insurance changed and did not cover the transfer cycle. Shady grove offered a global deposit where we paid $5000 upfront to cover expense related. It was very helpful and made it easy not to have to go through payments and worrying about costs during the actual cycle.
Describe Ryan Martin's approach to eSET (elective single embryo transfer) vs. multiple embryo transfer at Shady Grove Fertility Pennsylvania (US Fertility Network clinic).
No comments. He explained the reasoning very well and because our issues were basically sperm meeting egg, it did not make sense to transfer more than one.
Dr. Martin and his nursing staff are truly the best thing that I could have by my side during this process. He was always very calm, patient and explain things in times that I could understand. He never rushed our visit and always gave me the chance to ask questions.... For my first egg retrieval Dr. Martin placed me on an antagonist protocol. The reason we needed to seek IVF help was my husband suffers from male factor in fertility. Otherwise I have three healthy children from my previous marriage and no history of any issues conceiving.
Everybody that I encountered in regards to nurses and doctors [Shady Grover Fertility] were amazing. My only concern is the financial stand. It is hard to get them on the phone, they do not follow through with responses quickly and you have to make sure that you are on top of your benefits if using insurance or no exactly what you’re paying for so you can catch errors and get them correct The clinic has an amazing clinical staff.

As I have said in previous chances, Dr. Martin MD as a clinician is far more than I could ever expect from my doctor. I wish more doctors were like him. Whenever he saw that I was getting down in the process he will try to make sure to get me to laugh or smile and remind me that keeping a positive mindset is a big part of the process. He seem to always be involved in my care even after I was realeased from the clinic after my pregnancy. From the very first consultation when I met him and he sat down and drew a diagram out of what my care plan would look like to make sure that I understood everything that was going to happen to me I had a great feeling about him. Even after my husband’s job has relocate from Pennsylvania to New York three hours away I went to consultations with other doctors and did not find anyone that I felt transferring my care too and now decide to drive three hours each way to see him because I believe that much in him.

Do not be afraid to ask questions. He will answer every question and to him none are stupid questions. Give him the chance to allow you to feel comfortable

Dr. Martin and his nursing staff are truly the best thing that I could have by my side during this process. He was always very calm, patient and explain things in times that I could understand. He never rushed our visit and always gave me the chance to ask questions. When my second embryo transfer resulted in a missed miscarriage Dr. Martin’s office staff reach out to me throughout the entire process And I was also shocked that he personally called me at least three times just to check on how I was doing mentally as well as physically. It was the most comforting feeling ever to know that I was not alone from a clinical perspective and even as human beings.

For my first egg retrieval Dr. Martin placed me on an antagonist protocol. The reason we needed to seek IVF help was my husband suffers from male factor in fertility. Otherwise I have three healthy children from my previous marriage and no history of any issues conceiving. He explained to me that we would have to use IVF with ICSI because my current husband‘s sperm had to be surgically retrieved . During my first egg retrieval we used an hCG trigger however it caused me to overstimulate so now in my second egg retrieval cycle we are using lupron instead. After our miscarriage when we weren’t sure if we should proceed with IVF Dr. Martin explained that he felt we still had a chance because my body has proven that knows what to do in regard to my uterus, we just need a good embryo to implant. He said he felt as though the sperm was not a huge issue because we were able to get 3 embryos to blastocyst stage and highly recommended that this next cycle we utilize PGS testing to give ourselves the best cancelled of implanting a good embryo.

Dr. Martin’s nurse Debbie, is like a ray of sunshine. She was always feed it to hold my hand, get me through the hard times and explain things to me. They were times that she would be off for the day but would still make sure to call me with my results because she wanted to be the one to provide them to me. You can tell that she has a genuine caring and compassionate spirit for her patients and it shows in everything that she does.

Describe your experience with your monitoring appointments at Shady Grove Fertility Pennsylvania (US Fertility Network clinic).
When I lived in Pennsylvania morning monitoring appointments when that hard for me. Once I move to New York however monitoring between 7 and 9 AM was a little more difficult to get to considering I was driving three hours each way to get the air. One time I arrived after 10 AM but I was able to drive to the Chesterbrook facility and still see my doctor as he was there that afternoon. They understood my trip and we’re more than willing to help accommodate.

I don’t recall as my insurance covered everything except genetic testing. PGS testing is $3400
Describe Ryan Martin's approach to eSET (elective single embryo transfer) vs. multiple embryo transfer at Shady Grove Fertility Pennsylvania (US Fertility Network clinic).
For my first transfer we only transfer the one embryo. My second transfer was two embryos because we only had to laugh and Dr. Martin MD is open to discussing this with me. I told him that my insurance only allows us three chances and I would rather him play at two and still have one more chance laughed to go through another egg retrieval. He helped me weigh all the options and was open to my feelings and agreed to transfer two embryos in the second transfer. I love that we came to that decision together
Dr. Martin has always made himself available to us for any questions that we may have. We just finished our IVF consult with him and we feel so confident in our understanding and ability to move forward. I feel very lucky that Dr. Martin doesn’t just see me for my lab values, but treats me as a patient. He is very straight forward but also has an excellent bedside manner...I have unexplained infertility. I ovulate on my own with regular cycles and my husband is healthy. We started with clomid plus trigger plus timed intercourse. But clomid overstimulated my ovaries and we ended up switching to femara plus trigger plus timed intercourse. This our fourth and final cycle of timed intercourse. If this cycle fails, we will move onto IVF later in the year.
The nursing staff is so kind and compassionate [at Shady Grove Fertility]. I understand why they are so compassionate, however sometimes I felt like I was being handled with kid’s gloves. They have always phoned with reminders of appointments and also send out helpful emails with different tips and success stories from past patients.

I am very lucky with the insurance that I have the costs have been minimal. However, IVF is not covered. Luckily we qualify for Shady Grove’s shared risk program which is very affordable.
Dr. Martin has excellent bedside manner. He always remains positive and tried not give unfavorable information in a kind way. He has been open to phone calls and visits, and never makes his patients feel rushed... funny, personable and kind. He works hard to try and lighten the mood and often makes jokes in the office. He is also gentle. Vaginal ultrasounds are not the most comfortable thing and he does a great job and easing that discomfort.
Our total cost for the Shared Risk Program [at Shady Grove Fertility] with the genetic testing for all embryos was $28,000. The cost of visits were included. We probably spent an additional $300-$400 on meds for those three trials of IVF. We spent about $300-$400 on IUI with the cost of visit co-pays and medication over six tries...They can and will drop you from the shared risk program if you do not conceive within two tries. They label it low ovarian reserve or response and do not consider that grief plays a role. They push the phrase, "you get up to six tries and you either get a baby or your money back." They do not spend a lot of time going over reasons you could be dis-enrolled from the program which is misleading. Also, the services are extremely expensive and there is little information offered about financial resources for patients.

I believe I was on an antagonist protocol. I did the Estrogen patch followed by menopur and follistim for egg stimulation. Ganirelix was introduced to wards the end to prevent ovulation prior to egg retrieval. I was taking 450 ml of follistim per day (350 AM/ 150 pm), two vials & then three vials of menopur (one saline solution with the powder menopur) in the evenings and one syringe of the ganirelix. Not sure of the dosage of menopur or ganirelix but those were the instructions. I had appts every other day or so and sometimes daily. Bloodwork was obtained at every visit. I also had a saline sonogram twice during the course of treatment.

Tori is very kind. She is sometimes unavailable but the other nurses do a good job of covering for each other. She seemed a bit less knowledgeable than our previous nurse, Debbie Dancer, but she was ok.
Describe your experience with Shady Grove Fertility Pennsylvania (US Fertility Network clinic).
Shady Grove Fertility (SGF) is a very well run clinic overall. The staff is friendly and efficient, their facilities are clean and they seem invested in your success at becoming a parent. They only do procedures out of their Chesterbrook office which is not very convenient. There are times the Bala office has been closed unexpectedly which is inconvenient as well. The Chesterbrook office usually does well accommodating that.
The decision board is less personable. They seem to treat patients more like a number in that they do not take into consideration contextual variables. They can and will drop you from the shared risk program if you do not conceive within two tries. They label it low ovarian reserve or response and do not consider that grief plays a role. What specific things went wrong at Shady Grove Fertility Pennsylvania (US Fertility Network clinic)?
Failed to convey critical information
Describe the specific things that went wrong at Shady Grove Fertility Pennsylvania (US Fertility Network clinic).
It was really one issue but it was a significant one in my opinion. We were approved for the Shared Risk Program and told we would be fine. We conceived our twin daughters on the first try of IVF and lost them at four months gestation. We tried two additional rounds of IVF but I did not make genetically normal embryos. Each time I only had one egg that made it to blastocyst stage for PGS. Both were not eligible for transfer. We were then dropped from the program and told we could continue but pay per try. This is a $14,000 commitment. After many conversations, I was later told that I didn't have "the highest numbers" from the beginning and that despite my loss and grief, they weren't willing to continue with me in the program. This was news to me. If I had known my numbers weren't very high (they actually fluctuated at post review), we would have started IVF sooner. Now we have to be very calculated and hope that paying for another round independently will result in a viable embryo that can be transferred. It's very stressful.
We had a 2 unsuccessful rounds prior to conceiving our son - Dr. Martin always had a follow up plan for when we were ready to try again as well as words of encouragement...He was easy to talk to. He has an easy going personality that instantly made me feel comfortable.
The blood work appointments in the morning were the 1 thing I did not like [at Yale]. It was first come first served and you were a number then. The wait was never too long but having to wait with women going through this process is not pleasant. There was a lot of nervous chit chat that could turn competitive. I would wear headphones and tune it out.

What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Ryan Martin at Yale University?
It's difficult to offer advice having gone through this process. Every single situation is different, every reason for seeking fertility treatment is different and everyone seeking fertility has a different personality and emotional threshold. I could say relax and trust him! But relaxing is easier said than done.
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Ryan Martin at Yale University?
Dr. Martin and his nurse Kree made both myself and my husband feel like we were not just their patients but their friend/family. They were always concerned with our emotional well being through the fertility process. I still keep in touch with them even after our son was born. They both allowed me to cry, ask as many questions as I needed to, and contact them after hours with questions.

When, after my third round of IVF I finally had a positive pregnancy test, I came in for an appointment Kree brought me into an exam room and gave me a huge hug and we jumped up and down together! It was enthusiastic as well as discreet(I would never want to flaunt my success in front of other women who may have not had good news that day). She made me feel special every time I went in.

Dr Martin explained things in a way that was easy to understand and took as much time as we needed to answer questions. He was patient and compassionate. I felt like he actually cared about our well being. He also listened to our experiences In a caring way. I never felt pressured or like I couldn’t ask questions....We are trying medication and timed intercourse now and will progress to IVF if this doesn’t work. Dr Ryan adjusted the medication since I had a bad reaction in the past.
This clinic [Shady Grove] has been fantastic so far. They are personable understanding and caring. We have felt comfortable here despite this being one of the most stressful situations in our life. They have made us feel like they care and are here to help us.... My second opinion consult was complimentary... It seems their IVF costs are comparable to those of the first clinic.... I think the only downside is if Dr Martin is out, you have to go to Chesterbrook to see someone else.

Describe Ryan Martin's approach to eSET (elective single embryo transfer) vs. multiple embryo transfer at Shady Grove Fertility Pennsylvania (US Fertility Network clinic).
We didn’t talk about multiple embryo transfer yet. He managed our expectations in terms of how many healthy embryos we could reasonable expect.
He [Dr. Ryan Martin] didn't want to hear my thoughts or concerns. And also didn't explain the process the first time with femara. And I also had to go to my regular obgyn to get checked out because of a infection. I got from a procedure and no one at the clinic would respond in a timely manner...He knows his field and has great knowledge. But he comes on in a harsh manner. He could definitely be a little bit more compassionate. And under standing. Considering many women have emotional issues that come with infertility
Just remember having a issue with one nurse [at Yale University]. She was always rude. And short. I work in the pharmacy and one of the scripts had wrong directions. I messaged her. So it could get fixed so I could have it filled. She was rude and took forever to get back to me forcing me to having to miss a cycle...Definitely great with financial help. And getting things covered. They are also good at working out payment plans. The clinical staff were always great with bloodwork and my husband's fertility check.

Be prepared for a little bit of blunt and straight forward doctor
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Ryan Martin at Yale University?
He didn't want to hear my thoughts or concerns. And also didn't explain the process the first time with femara. And I also had to go to my regular obgyn to get checked out because of a infection. I got from a procedure and no one at the clinic would respond in a timely manner.
Describe your experience with the nursing staff at Yale University.
Just remember having a issue with one nurse. She was always rude. And short. I work in the pharmacy and one of the scripts had wrong directions. I messaged her. So it could get fixed so I could have it filled. She was rude and took forever to get back to me forcing me to having to miss a cycle
Describe your experience with Yale University.
Definitely great with financial help. And getting things covered. They are also good at working out payment plans. The clinical staff were always great with bloodwork and my husband's fertility check.
Describe the costs associated with your care under Ryan Martin at Yale University.
I played pretty much out of pocket due to having a high deductible plan. After I hit the 3000 deductible my insurance kicked in and paid 80% things that were not covered by the plan I had payment plans worked out. Which I'm still currently paying off
Dr Martin has been very friendly and treated us like we were the only patients that he has. He ensured we understood ever step of the process and continues to keep us positive and moving toward our goal...He is extremely through so if you have questions don't be afraid to ask them...My wife had to use Clomid and a trigger shot for 4 TI cycles and the same for 1 IUI cycle. Each cycle the drugs were working as prescribed and we had no set backs just never got pregnant.
Hallie [nurse at Shady Grove Fertility] was very responsive even when we were frazzled or emotional about things not going our way. She ensured we were comfortable and always responded in a timely manner on all emails and phone calls...Meds ranged between $25-100 and IUI procedure was $1800...The overall clinic is great. They try to schedule appointments in the most convenient fashions so it does not interfere with your day. They have very clean facilities and work with you to the best of their ability.

Dr Martin was the first doctor to take all the time I needed to explain with compassion the treatment protocol, my last doctor experience was terrible, I'm so thankful for meeting the right doctor and group bc now I feel comfortable with fertility treatments...I am just starting the IVF protocol, so all the treatment strategies aren't determined yet. I was recommended IVF bc of my age and the fact that I had treatments in the past that failed.
Tori [nurse at Shady Grove] was patient and followed up with me after I needed time to process the IVF decision. She's great!...So far I have nothing bad to say. Truly! This experience has been hard but 100% supportive. Everyone at the clinic I go to has been wonderful, and has taken the time to educate me and answer all my questions...24K and meds were seperate...Dr Martin was the first doctor to take all the time I needed to explain with compassion the treatment protocol, my last doctor experience was terrible, I'm so thankful for meeting the right doctor and group bc now I feel comfortable with fertility treatments.

[Protocol with Dr. Ryan Martin] Literally only an IUI with clomid and ovidrel. Over and over. I was t allowed to change protocol even after asking after each failed IUI...He was very patient and kind. Described treatments. I felt like I was a human when he was in the room. When I needed care or to discuss things I felt dismissed at times. They also have BMI restrictions...Just didn’t want to change medications each negative beta. Other then that he was kind and explained everything. A little too nervous about having multiples so kept doing the same protocol. I think changing up protocol would of been nice. Maybe it would of worked. I felt listened to in the beginning but after the second IUI, I didn’t.
Things weren’t communicated [at Shady Grove Fertility- Warrington]. I lost out on another cycle due to billing being so messed up...They weren’t sent to insurance correctly and were being double billed. Lots of issues. And it takes hours to get ahold of someone at billing...Strengths are scheduling and a accommodations...My nurse and nurses were great!!! The staff were great at helping especially when you had to call after hours. There were times I felt dismissed but not usually by the after hours nurse. I felt rushed at times as well.

Go in with an open mind. Ask all of your questions up front. Especially with billing. They were horrible. Hidden fees or not explained charges. Make sure you let them know what YOUR plan is as well. Tell them what you expect up front. He does listen and understand. Just takes a bit.

Dr Martin made me feel like I was his only patient. He went above and beyond my expectations...He drew me pictures to understand everything. He gave me all the time I needed to process and ask questions. He was so thorough and kind...Dr Martin went to the board to get our donor to be allowed back to donate to us and it works. Deb [nurse at Shady Grove Fertility Pennsylvania] checked on me constantly. I’ve never been canceled in all my appts and years w them. Everyone is happy and good at their job and informative...42,500 for the mid level egg donation package (which I did twice for my two kids) I did not pay anything outside that cost that I can think of.. maybe 150$ for some meds...

Describe the protocols Ryan Martin used in your cycles at Shady Grove Fertility Pennsylvania (US Fertility Network clinic) and their degree of success.
After one failed cycle of IVF to try to get eggs we decided to hold off and reevaluate what we could do. We ended up going with an egg donor. We ended up with just one perfect embryo which became my daughter. A year later he tried to get our donor to come back to donate again (since she under produced she had been leg go from the program). She was not allowed to donate so I searched for a new donor. To my surprise I found our donors eggs on the USA egg bank site and contacted Dr Martin right away! He worked right away to get us her eggs. The FDA ended up pulling them from the site for some kind of audit and they were gone. It was crushing to say the least.
Dr Martin went to the board to get our donor to be allowed back to donate to us and it works. She donated again and we ended up with two embryo. One becoming my son and completing our family.
Without Dr Martins compassion and advocation for us our family would surely not exist today.

Dr. Martin and the rest of the team at Shady Grove showed me what a supportive care team truly is. The experience of infertility is uncomfortable but the Shady Grove Warrington team made it the best that it could be. They were always there for us through the process and were always happy to move at our pace and answer all of our questions (and I had a lot!). Their hours were flexible and allowed me to do my monitoring appointments before work, rather than taking sick time every few days. Their professionalism was matched by their empathy, they have found the perfect balance of those two traits. Everyone in the office is understanding and has a warm and welcoming personality. They kept us on track when things weren’t going as we had hoped, and celebrated with us when it came time for us to “graduate”.

My insurance covered everything so I only paid my copays.
Dr. Martin has been a thoughtful care provider with a pleasing sense of humor and a calm demeanor. I transferred to his care in my first IVF pregnancy, and he was my primary doctor during the procedures leading up to my second pregnancy. He listened to my questions, especially when things weren’t successful, and answered thoughtfully...performed four frozen embryo transfers. He was quick to adjust my estrogen after I was experiencing negative reactions, and after my third transfer he added a steroid to my protocol and that resulted in a successful transfer and live birth.
The [Shady Grove Fertility Pennsylvania] clinic is organized and efficient. I had no negative experiences with them, and would recommend them. My appointments were scheduled easily and had time frames that worked with my work schedule, and they were good communicators...The nursing staff were wonderful. They celebrated with me at the end, and sympathized with me along the way, even mourning with me when I had a miscarriage.

How was your experience with Ryan Martin at Shady Grove Fertility Pennsylvania (US Fertility Network clinic)?
I first met with Dr. Martin in July of 2021 when I moved to PA from NJ. My previous fertility doctor in NJ recommended him and I was so glad she did! He carefully reviewed my records and helped me make a plan as my husband and I tried for our second baby. I was pregnant in October after an IUI however, I miscarried at 12 weeks in December. January of 2022 I met with Dr. Martin to discuss next steps. He was very caring and compassionate during one of the absolute worst times of my life. We did three IUI’s which were unsuccessful. At that point, Dr. Martin suggested IVF and we began the process in May. My nurse Alicia was so helpful along the way, always available to answer questions and help me with my medications. The first egg retrieval did not yield any healthy embryos. Dr. Martin personally called me at home to discuss next steps. He encouraged me to try another cycle and I’m so glad we did. Our second egg retrieval yielded five healthy embryos and after one implantation in October 2022, we were pregnant. This process was one of the most difficult ones my husband and I ever had to go through, but Dr. Martin and his team were there each step of the way. His caring bedside manner made this process less stressful. I am due with our second baby in July and couldn’t be more grateful for Dr. Martin. The day we “graduated” from Shady Grove was definitely bittersweet, as the care they provided was of the highest quality. I would highly recommend Dr. Martin at Shady Grove Fertility if you are considering seeing a fertility specialist.
