Success Rates
Each IVF cycle using donor eggs typically results in a live birth 40%–70% of the time. To illustrate, below you’ll find data from all U.S. reportng clinics, as well as large clinics from countries as varied as Spain and Peru.
While 40%–70% per cycle success rates may not seem high, let’s compare this to success rates for women over the age of 42 (who represent many of the egg donor recipients) when using their own eggs.
Below is data collected nationally from the U.K. and appearing in the Journal of the American Medical Association. As you can see, IVF success rates using donor eggs are anywhere from 5x–8x higher than IVF success rates for women over age 42 using their own eggs.
In a subsequent lesson we’ll make more nuanced comparisons by a broader range of ages.
